I decided to do this piece because I had a lot to say that needed to come out and be delivered-- to myself, to the air, to the paper shredder, to special people...My heart had been stuck and I needed to get it moving.
At the time I did this project in Vaasa, Finland, the Post Office was being privatized and postal workers were on strike. I wanted people to think about the importance of tactile communication, and exercising our ability to express the things we've forgotten to say.
There was a lot of joy in this project. It was especially rewarding to see children writing their very first letters.
This project was made possible by the generous support of Platform Artist in Residence Program in Vaasa, Finland.
